Amgen Celebrates World Psoriasis Day

On October 29th, Amgen celebrated World Psoriasis Day, which is a day dedicated to those living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Created by the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations (IFPA), World Psoriasis Day aims to shine a spotlight on the burden of the disease and empower partnering organizations to raise awareness and take action. Amgen is proud to be a sponsor of World Psoriasis Day for the first time in 2020.

IFPA is a prominent psoriasis advocacy organization uniting national and regional psoriasis associations from all over the world to campaign on behalf of people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Since its launch in 2004, World Psoriasis Day has gained worldwide attention and an incredible 68 associations from over 50 countries now take part. As it has grown, the day has become a platform, elevating the voices of the psoriasis community globally.

This year’s World Psoriasis Day theme is ‘Be Informed’, which speaks to the importance of patients, patient associations and medical professionals understanding how to engage with and support the management of psoriatic diseases. This theme has inspired us to take action with educational social media content – and from across the globe we are here to participate. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, or Instagram to join the online conversation!

“World Psoriasis Day this year is a first for Amgen, and we are proud to be part of it. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease which affects over 60 million people, of whom approximately 30% also suffer from psoriatic arthritis. Unfortunately, these conditions often remain untreated or under-treated which highlights the importance of understanding the disease and providing patients with the tools they need to find effective treatments with support from their physician,” said Cheryl Eubank, European Brand Lead, Otezla.

Amgen’s ‘Six Domains’ and ‘Visible Psoriasis, Invisible Impact’ educational psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis campaigns closely align with this year’s ‘Be Informed’ theme. They focus on the importance of providing patients with information that can empower them to take control of their condition by having open and honest conversations about their physical and mental health with their physicians.

Our ‘Visible Psoriasis, Invisible Impact’ campaign continues to reach patients with vital information on the challenges associated with psoriasis, and the necessity of having tailored and effective consultation sessions. As part of the campaign, we have created testimonial videos in which psoriasis patients discuss true to life scenarios where their disease has impacted their personal and professional lives, and how these challenges can sometimes be overlooked by others. Watch the testimonials of our three patient characters, John, Eleanor and Jim below.

As a global initiative, World Psoriasis Day seeks to unite the voices of psoriasis communities all over the world. This is another message which lies at the heart of Amgen’s campaigns, as we work together to truly engage and support patients on their specific journeys with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. We are delighted to see our goals come to fruition as seen for instance by the recent launch of the ‘Visible Psoriasis, Invisible Impact’ campaign in Italy which is helping us connect more directly within the Italian psoriasis community.

This October Amgen is also attending the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) virtual congress, where a sponsored symposium, meet the expert session and data presentations are all part of the new but exciting virtual format.

Amgen is thrilled to be taking part in our first World Psoriasis Day, and we look forward to continuing to support people living with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis in Europe and globally.
